Welcome to Chemainus Lodge No. 114

Having adopted the name of Chemainus Lodge on March 6, 1926, the Masonic Brethren of Chemainus sent a letter, along with a petition to the Grand Lodge of British Columbia (now the Grand Lodge of British Columbia and Yukon) requesting support for the Chemainus effort to form a Lodge. Chemainus Lodge No. 114 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons received it's Charter July 16, 1927.

Chemainus Lodge is in District 27 on Vancouver Island, and meets in St. John's Masonic Temple, in Ladysmith.  The Lodge proudly performs the Emulation Ritual, as performed by the United Grand Lodge of England since the 1700's.

We are pleased to be performing an
Entered Apprentice Degree
on Monday, March 4, 2024,
to introduce Mr. Aaron Davidson
into the mysteries and privileges
of Freemasonry.

There will be a festive board before
the Lodge mee
ting, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Marking our 96th Year

It's hard to believe our Masonic year is half over.  We've packed a good degree of work in the first 5 months, seeing two brethren now raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason.  There, yet, remains a great deal of work to bring Chemainus Lodge back to the firm foundation once provided by our founders.

That will be achieved through continued community awareness in the Chemainus valley, our traditional catchment area.  The Lodge brethren will continue to present Freemasonry in a favourable context, as we participate in local activities for the benefit of the community.

Through local growth, our Lodge  will, once again, thrive in District 27.

Sincerely and Fraternally

Very Worshipful Brother Terry van Seters

A bit of history...

On 1 December 1869, the Prince was appointed to the rank of Past Grand Master in the Grand Lodge of Scotland. Less than 12 months later, he affiliated to The Lodge of Edinburgh(Mary’s Chapel) No 1 and on the same date was designated as The Patron of the Masonic Order in Scotland. In 1871, he was awarded the same title in Ireland. In 1874, the Prince was elected as Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England, installed in 1875 and held that position until he became King in 1901.
